I have an egg due to hatch in 2-3 days. I had to take it from the mother cause she cracked the shell so I was kind of forced to make a incubator. I put it in a 10 gallon fish tank that has a lid, thermometer, a bowl with water, and a fan. The temp is about 101. Chick seems to be content cause when I change the batteries in the fan it started moving since I opened the lid. This is my first time creating my own incubator so I'm pretty paranoid its to hot. How hot is to hot?

not too likely during the last 2 days.. I run my forced air units at 100F.. I have hatched about 500 assorted birds so far this summer and not a single defect.

So sadly the chick died. I'm going to invest in a small incubator for these type of situations. This is the third time she has cracked the shell of an egg and lost a chick. Is it even possible to save a chick with a cracked shell? Please let me know...

the only thing is that these werent just cracked. There was a lot of the shell missing. Theres 5 more yet to hatch and 2 of those have already pecked through the shell. Hopefully the other 3 will be ok.
