Long story short-the girls have this:

The white one (shelter chicken-never knew her breed) and buff orpington are no longer with us (coyotes). If my calculations are correct, that's only 24 square feet between the coop and run. The black one is Tender as a pullet.

When my 3 "car chicks" are old enough and big enough to be with Tender, I would like them to have more space since I only let chickens run loose in the backyard when I'm home for safety.

I want to add a 5 x 5' kennel for a few reasons. I want the babies to have a separate safety area to stay in so they can be safely confined outdoors (after their feathers come in of course) when I'm not home in case Tender decides not to show her softer side. In addition, I want to provide as much space as possible when I'm at work.

The plan is to surround it with hardware cloth and put a roof on it, close off one of the sides to create a wall for shade, rain protection, etc and so on.

It's 5' high and each panel can be assembled to make it a true addition to the current coop. I can use a piece of treated wood or plastic to "wall off" an area if needed in case of aggression from my older hen.

What I'm unable to figure out is there is a 2' difference between the kennel and the run of my current coop. How can I enclose that area?
