My family is looking to adopt a terrier mix dog. Someone told me that terriers are bad with chickens and cats. Does anyone have any experience with terrier breeds and cats and chickens? Thanks in advance.

My brother-in-law has a Jack mix and she comes over all the time. She doesn't bother my free-range chickens at all. She actually wants to play with the goats. The only ones I have to watch her with are the rabbits. Same with the Jug I used to have. Didn't mess with any of my critters. Ironically it was the Border Collie my neighbor had that was killing my birds a few years ago.

Thanks, we really want to adopt this guy. Trying to do my homework.

management is the key with any dog. Only on-leash access until you know how he is as an individual. After that, I would still be sure to always supervise. I would advise the same with any breed of dog. :)

Terriers are feisty dogs, bred to take on prey bigger and stronger than themselves. They are strong-willed and won't give up. I hope that this little guy finds a great home!

We got an adult terrier type dog from the shelter, she has always been fine with my cats, free range chickens, livestock, no training was needed. We've had her 5 years now.
