I have some fake plastic(hollow) eggs that I bought a couple years ago. They have been mainly for decoration but I am wondering if I filled them with hot glue or something to give them "realistic" weight, would they work as dummy eggs to test a broody hens "broodiness"?

I just don't want to set real eggs and then have them go bad because she's not completely broody.

I have a broody hen sitting on golf balls right now. Just don't test her for long, either give her some eggs or break her. Being broody can be hard on a hen they lose weight so don't test her for a couple of weeks then set eggs. I give them a couple of days then give them eggs or break them with first time broodys. I have some bo's that can and do change their minds.

If they're broody they'll sit on anything. Golf balls, fake eggs, many will set on nothing at all.
