I have never been a person who belongs to any social media site, but i just had to join BYC to let everyone here know how much i appreciate this site.
I have had chickens for at least the last five years and just enjoy them so much. Every time i have had a problem with one of them, i would just type in the search engine what the problem was and BYC was always the first page that came up with a remedy that usually worked.
I usually get a few new chicks in the spring and never lost any, i would give them electrolytes in their water and the usual chick starter food. I didn’t give them egg yolks, molasses, ACV, etc. and every last one of them have lived. I did the usual soak off for pasty butt, but that was it.
Well this year i had gotten a this sweet little one, and have had her for 7 days, then all of a sudden, she was hunched over straining in the corner, just chirping in pain. Her cloaca was swollen with just a slight bit of foul smelling feces oozing out. So needless to say, i did a search, and BYC had all kinds of ideas to try.
I tried: Karo syrup, prune juice, yogurt, warm baths, compresses to her abdomen, etc. nothing helped.
So back to the internet. There were a few threads about enemas. Ok, I will try it. I used soapy warm water and an eye dropper. It didn’t work the first time, so about an hour later tried again. It worked! I had just about written her off.
Now, she just ate, and is resting comfortably.
If it hadn’t had been for BYC, I would have lost her. I would have never have thought to give her an enema.
So thank you all that had contributed to all of those threads.
