Greetings everybody!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am new to raising chickens, it's something I first encountered about 2 years ago at a friend of a friend's house in Charlottesville VA and have been trying to figure out how to make happen. I lucked into a place in the city with a big backyard and I've finally cleared it out and predator proofed it enough that I'm ready to bring in the birds.
A big help was getting the book, "A Chicken in Every Yard" as a gift last year.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Zero, but I just found a local seller that has two hens of the types I've been looking to get: a Plymouth Rocks Barred and a Rhode Island Red. I plan to drive out and pick them up within the week.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
Google search. What a find, this site is amazing.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I've been trying to establish a little urban farm at my place, so I've been gardening up a storm. I have 4 varieties of heirloom tomatoes going, cucumbers, zucchinis, eggplant, carrots, butterhead lettuce, beets, beans, sweet potatoes, peppers, garlic, basil, thyme, rosemary, chives, dill, and a massive hop trellis that is packed with Columbus and Cascade hops. The bines of the hop plants are so overgrown that when I harvest them they just go into homebrew as a mix. Also I love to play and watch ice hockey (Go Caps!).
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Single guy, two roommates, we'll see how they take to the chickens. I'm guessing: big fans of the fresh eggs, less so of the fresh poop.

Chicken poop is no big deal, and it's wonderful for the garden.
