As I was growing up my mom raised chickens. After our eight year old grandson found a chicken nest in our haystack. He ask grandpa if he could have the chicks. Our grandson started looking up chickens online, as part of his school work. We all took a chick class from our local feed store. After the class, we purchased our first 12 Leghorn chicks, that was the first part of March. Then a coworker of our son gave us a rooster and 7 laying hens. The rooster is a Maran cross and the hens are Legbar crosses. Next thing I know we have purchased an incubator and fertilized eggs. We are in lockdown right now. We have hatched 4 Ayam Cemani, 1 Americana and waiting on some Lavender Orpington and Silkies. We also raise goats and calves. Our grandson found BYC when he was searching for information on chicks.
