We have a permanent flock of 20 to 24 chickens, but since we also like to raise our own meat birds, we have had as many as 51 at one time. We have our main coop for our "permanent" flock of egg layers and rooster(s), and a second (temporary) coop that we use for isolation of ill or injured birds, broody hens/hens with chicks, or meat birds as needed. Our flock free ranges within our fenced area, which I know isn't exactly free ranging. We like to allow our hens to hatch their own chicks. We like to keep 2 roosters, although we have only one at the moment. We consider ourselves to be pretty proficient chicken parents. Having said that, from time to time things arise that are new and unfamiliar, and it is nice to have a support group to call on. We look forward to interacting with a community of like minded people, and sharing tips and information! Thanks for letting us join.
