While I am not exactly new to chickens (we had a small flock of bantams years ago), we are new to taking it seriously. Our current oldest hens are almost a year - 17 red sex links. We have 8 black australorps (2 roos, 6 hens) that aren't laying yet, and we have one blue Andalusian hen that is also not laying yet. We also have 12 broilers in our freezer. We are starting to homestead with our children and a couple of siblings. It's a group effort. My favorite things are the chickens themselves. They have so much personality! Whenever I am stressed, a trip to the coop is all it takes.
I also like to doodle and dabble with pencils and watercolor. And I take care of my dad. It doesn't leave a lot of time for other things. We only have dogs at the moment, but we used to have cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish. We've tried a lot over the years.
I used to belong to the BYC Facebook page, but it got a little too dramatic (and I don't want to see slaughtered chickens while I am drinking my coffee) so I decided to see if this was still helpful without all the drama. :)

Welcome back to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies!
A lot of people will put a warning about photos, I just don't click on the link unless it's something I may be able to help with.
