I stumbled on the Old Timer's massive "Rockin' Chair" thread a few days ago. It didn't take much reading before I knew I was getting my 5 week old chicks out of the bathroom and into their coop as soon as humanly possible! Thanks to the no-nonsense experience shared there, I learned I could put the people back in our space and the chicks in theirs. Done! Awesome mothers day present - chicks in the coop!

Cute!
I got a lot out of that thread. There is some very logical, rational handling highlighted there. Practical chicken keeping that can be applied to any size flock.
It was a relief when I found those folks. I was starting to wonder if I was callous & unfeeling since the thought of hugging my chickens never crossed my mind.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, if it is your thing...

Relief - good word for it! Yep, totally relieved to find out that these peeping fuzz balls weren't going to freeze to death or catch something awful from actually being outside! I read an absolute ton about chickens before getting them... nothing was as practical as the group here. My 5 do have names and we are probably on the "pet" side of the fence, but hey, we only have 5... maybe when I'm a true addict and have a bunch more, it'll be a different story.
