I recently purchased a great book "Bantam Chickens" by Fred P. Jeffery - First printing 1974 - Fifth printing 1995. On page 123 at the end of the feeding section was this little tidbit:
How to get Rich in Montana - as reported by an anonymous writer in Farm-Poultry (1893):
"The latest hen story comes from Montana where a miner claims to have found
$l0.00 worth of gold nuggets in a bantam's gizzard.
He at once bought 50 more and turned them out to pick up gold. Thirty-one
of them yeilded $387.00"
