Customer service being what it is today (sadly), I'm sure everyone can relate to this. I finally have a flock (a year after buying acreage, lol).
In April I called some local feed stores looking for my first chicks. One young man told me "I can pick some up for you, I can have them on Friday." He told me his supplier had RIR, RIW, and BA. I asked him to get me 6 BA and 6 RIR, but I didn't want any RIW.
When Friday arrived I called to confirm. "I don't have them yet." Okay, never mind.
I found another feed store that had chicks. I brought 5 home (3 RIRs and 2 BBs).
The next Tuesday I missed a call from the first store. The message said they have my 12 chicks, when can I pick them up? I called them first thing the next morning. "Yes we have them, but they are at our other location (50+ miles away). I'll have them here tomorrow." I told him that I would be there to get them.
The next morning he called me. "Do you still want the chicks?" "Yes, I do. I'll be there in the next hour." "Well, we have some that wants them." "I'll be there."
When I got to the store, they had 5 BAs, 4 RIWs, and what they said were 3 RIRs (2 of which were at least 2 weeks older than the others, and buff, not red). I pointed out to him that I ordered 6 BAs and 6 RIRs and 0 RIWs. "I told you we had a buyer for them if you don't want them."
At least I have a variety in the coop. The 2 larger "RIRs" are apparently buff orpingtons, lol, and will probably be my first producers!
