What killed my chicken?

Doesn’t much matter what it was. Chickens in an unsecured area will be targets for many things. When my free rangers were wiped out by coyotes a few years back, they just disappeared without a trace.

Instead of wondering about the “what”, I’d suggest focusing in the “how” and how to prevent it from happening again. When it’s working, electric will stop just about any ground predator.

We have a 165' poultry fence that's 48" high. It's connected to a Gallagher M160 energizer that puts out a 8000 volt shock every second. Keeps black bears and fox away

Get a game camera. I had something killing my birds a few years ago and I couldn't figure out what is was and how it got in, there was no evidence except dead birds. I have 2 coops that were open on one side. I put one of my game cameras out and discovered it was an owl. Now all of my pens are covered. I put cement under all of the gates because a fox did dig under one of the gates and during the day it was going in killing a bird dragging it out then going back in and repeating the process. I did re-locate the fox. I have some game cameras up in different spots and most every night I see coyotes, fox, possums, raccoons, bobcat and sometimes cats and dogs.
