Hi everybody! I thought it would be nice to post a thread all about the little chooks I got in the mail this morning, because who doesn't love pictures of little balls of fluff and cuteness! I had only 4 and a half hours of sleep since they came at 3:30, so I am very tired. Veery tired. Worth it though. :love
Anyway, I ordered 25 chicks from Meyer's All Female Rainbow Chick Layers, guaranteed at least 5 breeds and approximately 90% pullets. We did definitely get more than 5 breeds (and 1 extra chick!!) but I'm really not quite sure what they are. I'm pretty sure we have a few BCMs in there, some Barred Rocks, perhaps a few Dominiques, possibly a few Buff Brahmas, and there are a few gray chicks and brown chicks that I'm really unsure of. :idunnoWhen I opened the box for a few seconds I thought they mixed our order up since they are almost all black and white. It is kinda weird that the lightest chick I got was a dark grey, but I'm not complaining. I did get what I asked for.:jumpy
And here are the pictures! If you want to take a stab at possible breeds that'd be much appreciated and likely very thought provoking, if you just want to stalk the thread for occasional updates that's ok too! This is also definitely a learning experience for me so if anyone has suggestions on making the little ones happier, that would be great!

The green is just Gro- gel that the chicks decided to spill everywhere.

The three brown ones! Fawn, Petunia and Genevieve.

These five have the same color patterns, but Goldie, second from the bottom, is a bantam. I'm thinking Buff Brahma, maybe?

These are the two bantam gray ones, Fleur and Primrose. Sorry about the bad image quality, Primrose was being very squirmy.

Gigi the meanie. She likes to pull on the other chick's eyelids, and is one of the possible BCMs. Thoughts? Oh, and she's also the one giving me the side- eye in some earlier shots. :gig

Bea's upset face. It's even cuter in person. :love:lauShe's incredibly fluffy with an abundance of foot down.

Oops. Sorry, I haven't gotten around to updating yet, it's been kinda hectic. 😅 The chicks are now one month old! Time flies so fast. They got kicked outside last week and are let out into the run in the day and locked up in the old guinea pig cage at night with a heat lamp. It's not the best situation, but it works pretty well. The big chickens are very upset about being locked out of their run, but I think they're getting used to having chicks around.

Gigi wanted a selfie today. It's undeniable, she's photogenic from every angle.

The chicks have developed a new hobby: sunbathing.
IMG_8514.JPG
Prim being skeptical. She's very wary of me. And everyone and everything, for that matter.
IMG_8507.JPG
Bea in motion! Forrest behind her has been very territorial lately, he'll try to break into the run, scare the chicks, and he's started to bite my feet. He might have to go soon.
IMG_8546.JPG
Emmy is being much nicer to the chicks than Forrest! He's very curious about them.
IMG_8547.JPG
They don't really like him though. Poor guy. In their defense, he looks a lot scarier than he is.
IMG_8543.JPG
And two possible roos! Above is Edward, right in the middle. Next to all the other barred rocks, he looks very different. He has wattles coming in and his feathers are growing in much slower and more orderly than all the girls. Below are three unnamed buff brahmas, of which the farthest right is the suspected roo. The difference in comb color and size is much more noticeable in real life.

And of course, to cap it all off, I discovered bloody poop yesterday! I have corrid coming on Friday. Do they need it sooner than then? Could it be something other than coccid? I've never dealt with anything like this before. Is there anything else I should do for them? And what about the big chickens- they were inhabiting the run before the littles so they might already be immune, and they haven't come in direct contact with the chicks at all, but should I still dose them?
