Hi guys!
big_smile.png
(And gals!)

This is gonna be a funny thread packed with interesting, hilarious and true stories about me attempting to free-range my chooks. Its not easy, especially with three roosters and a bunch of hens that like to go on adventures around the whole yard. Can I make it through another day of free-ranging the Frantic Free-Rangers? Stay tuned to find out!

After I went to gymnastics (and to get my hair cut

) my sister and I had to stay over night at my grandparents' house, (which is just abross the yard). Well, as soon as I got there, I went to the garage to check on the three babies under the heat lamp. Theyre not tiny little chickies anymore, let me tell ya!

After that I went out to the coops to see my chooks. My grandpa went fishing and my grandma was cooking dinner so it was just me and my sister. Well, as soon as we got out there, my sister bailed on me and went back inside. It was just me and the chooks. Stupid me, decides to let ALL 16 of them out AT ONCE to free-range, all by myself. With one gigantic dominate rooster, one slightly smaller wants-to-be-dominent rooster who will mate with any hen he can get his hands on, one slightly backwards dumb stubborn rooster (sorry Peetie, but its the truth), three meek younger pullets and 10 rambunctious, stubborn, likes-to-run-away pullets, free-ranging is even difficult with two people. Of course, as soon as I opened the door to the big chickens coop, they all came racing out and into the field somewhere. I opened the smaller chickens coop and to my surprise, all five came running also. They stayed near the door though. Peeta, his royal dumbness, decides to chase after a couple of big hens. I'm like "Peetie, you dumbie, if oyu go over there you'll get whooped by Jasper." I herd him back over to the front of the coop where the rest of the little chicks are. I turn my back to go corral some of the big hens out from the neighbors yard when all of the sudden I can only count four little chicks. Whos missing? And of course, I catch sight of Peeta limping across the field with Jasper following at a slower pace. "What did I tell you, you dumb rooster!" I say scooping him up. Then I see Charley mixed up with the big hens trying to mate with them all. Jasper comes over to open up a can of whoop on Charley, but instead Charley tries to mount Jasper!

Charley is smaller than Jasper and Jasper didnt like that ONE BIT! It was os funny! Again I turn my back to go herd some run away hens from the neigbors yard when I see three buzzards and mistake them for hawks. I'm frantic to corral the chooks back into the coop. When I get back, all of the little chooks are in the big chooks coop. I'm like "Fine, then. Stay there." So I herd the big chickens into the wrong coop for the night. I do a head count and start my way back up the yard. Ok... My own stupidity shows here: All of a sudden, I see a proud Chica strolling across the yard in front of the building! I run and scoop her up. "What! I did a headcount!" I guess I miscounted... Well, everyones back in the opposite coop, though it works for the night!

This morning my grandma switchesd them back over. Everything is fine in the HenHouse!

I love how they are sooo excited to see you when you let them out, but gosh forbid you try to put them BACK in the pen. Then you are the evil doer. They act like they are being killed. And it's like....we go through this charade EVERY evening.

Well, today was another day with the Frantic Free-Rangers. The little chickens did a few laps around the building and discovered that the babies (Bramble, Basil and Chicklet) were outside in their mini cage. It was hilarious that Charley stood up at the cage and was almost as tall as it, but the babies were only about 1/4 of his size, but you could tell that Bramble was sizing him up!

We got the little chickens back in the coop and the little chickies were still outside. I opened the cage door and the three little ones came following me out. They pranced all around te shale driveway and into the soft grass. It was hilarious how they attempted to dustbathe. There wasnt any dust though. Chicklet laid onto the rass and flailed around in the grass. THey tried to scratch and scrounge. It was really cute!
