The African and Chinese goose thread!!

My spring feed store 'White Chinese' goslings are grown up now, and confusing. Moo Shu's mini dewlap is a headscratcher, and I can't see any conformation differences between them and the Brown Africans.

Am I correct in the knobs big enough now to make them both officially ganders?

Sunshine (African) got a companion! Someone dumped this beautiful (I think girl) goose at the state park I work at. It took the rangers a couple weeks to catch her but now she lives here and Sunshine is over the moon for her. She seems rather content so have him around too :) Based on a whole bunch of guesses from random people on Facebook, I'm thinking she's possibly toulouse x white Chinese. I've named her Gypsy.

WOW, I've never seen a brown Chinese/African goose with eyes like that!! She's beautiful.

"He" unfortunately. Gypsy ended up being a gander that decided that he hated my car. He put scratches the whole way around it from biting at it. He found a new home on an actual farm. Sunshine does now have a proven female companion though. I found him a young toulouse goose to keep him company....Lily goose

Ah, geese.... They can be so finicky about the strangest things. Shame you couldn't keep him, but these two look lovely as well :)

How old is it? It seems like it still has some knob-developing to do. Head raised like that is a gander thing. But I find that their behavior can be ambiguous until they mature.

I would lean towards Chinese rather than African. Any possibility it is a mixed breed?

Woah! Those eyes are beautiful! Especially contrasting with the orange bill and feet.

I just realized Sunshine has kind of an upside-down knob on his dewlap.
  • African or Chinese? Goose or gander? Very vocal and pretty friendly. Leaning toward gander.
Looks like a cross with Toulouse or something given the orange bill and feet.

Absolutely likely to be mixed breed. The couple who sold him to me were evicted from a rather haphazard duck and chicken "farm." I kinda felt like I rescued him.
I would really like to find 2 females for him, but no luck so far.
