The broody turkey tread

yes you can. I had a turkey raise a mixed group of guinea keats, and turkey poults. The guineas had to have laid some eggs in her nest. The guineas still prefer to be with the turkey's instead of the other guineas.
I am sure a turkey would raise a batch of chicks with no problem.
ohh right thanks
anybody else have any broody turkeys

I had a turkey go broody and one of my chickens apparently thought she needed help. So they both sat on the eggs until they hatched 1 week ago. They work together raising them. I think the chicken is a better mother, although the turkey is much more protective. What has surprised me is the tom never leaves the babies. He will even sit on them to keep them warm if they get away from their moms. Who would've thought that!

I'm on my second turkey brood this summer. The first hatch of 9 poults was June 5th, and the same hen just started another 10 eggs. Anyone have luck selling poults this late in the year?

I have broody. Hen that eggs should have hatched on the 21 st. Caught her off nest and candeled the eggs all were dead.

Tossed them. Before I got done hen was setting on empty nest.

I have 7 eggs that go into lockdown Tuesday so I set 3 of them in front of her and she pulled them under her.

Will this be ok doing that she was awfully determined to set.

I think that sounds like a reasonable plan. You SHOULD be able to graft the others on to her once they hatch, too.

how do turkeys usually start to set? do they usually just decide they are going to set one day and stay on the nest other than once a day to get up and eat and drink? or will they set on the eggs at night and a good part of the day and get up several times? i have a hen that started staying on the nest a few days ago but she seems to get off the nest alot. also, the first night there were only 8 eggs. now there are 12. there one other hen laying in the pen so could she still be laying eggs while setting? there is one other hen in the pen (3 total) but i dont think the 3rd one is laying yet
