Did not come out too good for this pic, I am not a pro at uploading so any advise is aways appreciated. This is just the start of what we are doing. Husband finished the out side clap boards and will be putting two windows, trim around the bottom and we also built a undercover feeding box for the outside to ensure they always have food and water inside and out side. And the two girls whom I call BIG girl and little Girl are outside pecking around. Cant wait for the finish product and the girls seem happy too

They do, and that makes me very happy, I love animals. Animals just bring out all the positives in live, what a great feeling :)

I can't wait to get it all done for them. The one thing I am concered as it snows here is how I can set up a heating system to keep their water from freezing. Any advise from anyone love to hear from you

If you are not going to be able to run electric to the coop you still have several options.

1) Store the waterier in a heated area overnight. You can then bring it back out in the morning as the girls come off the roost. If you have two waterers just rotate them mid day and that might keep them from freezing. Little more labor involved in it.

2) Bring out warm water in the morning to add to the frozen. This should help thaw it out.

Your only other option that I am aware of is using a heated waterier or make one yourself using the bottom of a flower pot drip pan turned upside down (do NOT use plastic) and installing about a 25 watt bulb should do the trick. Run an extension cord to the coop from the house.

I've also been researching solar panels. Some are not badly over priced and the smaller panels would power a few lights nicely.

It will be interesting hearing other peoples ideas too!

This winter we plan on using the heated waterier bases. One suggestion I've read for using the heated bases is NOT to use a plastic waterier. Galvanized is the suggested type of waterier.
