Hi all I am new to this group and want to introduce myself. I do pottery, aquaponics and raise ducks.
I have 3 muscovy hens and just got 4 anconas (one drake 3 hens). I wll post pics soon.
I use to have 8 chickens reds, blacks. All had names and personal relationships with family and dogs. One of my hens decided to fly out of the fence and into a neighbors yard. She called the police and they, along with code enforcement showed up at my door. I sold the newest ones for meat but the ones we had the longest we found someone who just wanted eggs and would treat them well. Three weeks later the neighbor, a renter, moved out. Thanks a lot.
The Cops didn't know about the quiet little muscovys and the are still here. I just traded a 22 rifle for the four anconas and am very impressed with them as --well people. friendly and social they are a hoot to watch with my muscovys. this morning they were in the old chicken pen which I keep open now and the were freaking when I walked into the yard. Why was this they could not see me yet? Well my two wildish wabbits were trotting from me and scaring the ducks. The muscovys ignore them ( the rabbits) and our two dogs dont bother any of the yard creature except squirels.
The most friendly muscovy "Millie" followed the new herd around yesterday and got to be accepted by them -from a slight distance. The other two just got up on the highest spot in the yard and looked (smugly?) down over the newbies. It is hilarious to watch them all and I look forward to their new antics as they get better acclimated to the new environs.
