Just wanted to say hi. I've lurked here off and on for some time and was going to get chickens last year but just never got around to it. I was a little worried about how my neighbors would take it. They're great neighbors but this isn't rural chicken central... Or so I thought... Last Friday I noticed my neighbor building something... It was a chicken coop...

So I ordered up 6 brown egg layers (Hybrid mix of a White Rock female/Road Island Red Male). I thought I was going to have to wait until May 24th but they just called. They have 6 that I can pickup tomorrow or Thursday. I'm going to get them on Thursday because tomorrow is just swamped for me...

I don't even have supplies! I do have a dog crate that I'm going to turn into a brooder but that's it... I hope the place I'm getting them from has stuff, if not there's a tractor supply nearby that I should be able to get what I need.

Yeah!!!! I can't wait!

from Schuylkill County, PA! I'm originally from near Quakertown, and have family in the Souderton and Limerick areas.

You should have everything you need set up in a jiffy. If you don't have a brooder, just use a big cardboard box with some shavings, and cover the shavings with papertowels for the first few days. Add a watering setup and a food container, and a securely attached heat lamp, and presto! You're set up! You'll be fine!

Have fun!!!
