We'd been keeping our silkie chicks in a large sized dog kennel in the house, and though they were quickly outgrowing it, the door to their coop is latticed and they can still fit through the holes if they squeezed hard enough. Boyfriend's mom to the rescue, she found a bunch of screens on wooden frames that were just sitting in the garage. So we took one apart, doubled it over and stapled it to the door of the coop. Add newspaper, aspen shavings and we have a habitable coop!

But what to do with the other screens? Build a run of course! It's small, but the coop is raised a few feet off the ground and the underneath area is all fenced in, so when they're big enough that they can't fit through the holes, a simple modification is all that's needed to give them run 3x the space.
