Hi so when I got my chicken the lady was going to kill her cus she was 2 1/2 and not laying anymore. Well we have had her for a month and her comb was so small. Now its really big and she is laying everyday almost. If she was grown already when we got her why would her comb grow????? I'm new to the chicken thing. :) thanks

It's all about the hormones. When hens are well fed in good health and their hormone levels rise their combs are an indicator of the onset of laying.

Yes, her bright enlarged comb and wattles are her body's way of saying, "Look! I'm in the peak of health."
