My teenagers are 8 weeks old this weekend and have been living freerange inside of their coop since they were 4 weeks old. The coop hasn't been finished out on the inside yet because they've got awhile before the need for nestboxes

The rain has really made it a challenge to get this run up, but we started...and then it rained again. Before the rain, we were able to bury bricks all the way around the landscape timbers. These bricks are two stacked up on each other deep.

But the last week has been gorgeous and DH got a lot of work done on it. This morning we woke up early and he and I together got it wrapped in wire, and finally! A big sigh of relief!

We opened the pop door and here's the first peek out. Betty the Beautiful Bitty (also called Betty the Brave) was the first one to enter the run.

Cautiously everyone stepped a little further out into the yard...

I couldn't be more thrilled to finally have another chicken yard!

Way cool!

I think it is hilarious that our daughter named her chicken Dora from Dora the Explorer and it is the most adventurous of the four! Love their little personalities.

Thanks everyone

I'm so thrilled to finally have it finished. Now I'll need to clean up the coop because they've been in there for a month and it needs a little attention. I'll have to lock them out lol.

These chicks are my first every hatchlings. I got my eggs from De, here on the forums. 5 of them are EE's (including Betty)...I'm starting to suspect that Betty is a Roo...in fact of the 5 EE's, I have 3 roos I'm sure. These chicks were bred EE to EE.

Two of them that are tufted are polish mixes. The lighter one is a gorgeous blue mottled chick called Robbie (my son Robbie had a mohawk when they hatched so I had to namesake him). I'm reallllly hoping that Robbie is a pullet. The other one is the little black one with black legs that I call Duffy. I'm almost sure Duffy is a boy. Three other's are Cochin mixes. They're all mixed with EE and came from tinted eggs. I think I might have one more roo out of that mix. I hate that I'll have to rehome some of the roos, but I should only keep one mixed and it's going to be between Betty if she's roo, or Robbie. There are 11 teenage chicks total and I have 5 more 3 day old Cuckoo Marans in the brooder. Two of them are roos. LOL

I'm setting one more batch of eggs and those will be black copper marans. Then I'm DONE! I think I'll build a nice tractor for them.

The coop is actually rather large. I haven't measured it but I would guesstimate 10 X 10 feet. We're going to partition it so that we can set up boxes and roosts for both of our pens. If you look into the picture behind the new run, there is another run with my big girls (and one boy) behind it. Right now they roost under a 3 sided wall area that's in the open run. They work hard giving me eggs and so I want to partition them in and open a pop door on their side too.
