****Question*****

Okay..so our duckies were supposedly shipped today

and we should be getting them sometime tomorrow or Friday. (Again

We've been chatting and we were wondering if the ducklings need a non-skid surface like chicks (paper towel or rubber mats etc) or would it be okay to put the pellet shavings mix in?

Mine were on puppy pads till I learned about the pellets. I don't think it would hurt them to be on the pellets from day 1. Some people have said they didn't like the pellets because they are pretty hard. All you have to do is spray them with a little bit of water, and the ducklings walking around will break them down.

I also had someone tell me they had heard not to put them on shavings and such the first 2 weeks. My experience is that they will try to eat anything that is new. They are worse than a baby, always putting things in their mouths. Once they figure out it is not food, they will quit trying to eat it. I had mine on pellets, and put some shavings in there one night. They had been having a lot of fun with their water

and had their box soaked. It was pretty late, so I just dumped some sshavings on top of the pellets for the time being. They were having a ball, gobbling up as much as they could. Now they are outside, and their 'house' has shavings and pellets both in it. They don't bother them. By the time you get them, they won't have trouble walking. You may want to put them on paper towels for a few days, till they know what they are supposed to eat!

Kinda contradicted myself there!

Okay, they shouldn't need the non-skid factor, but they will probably need the feed sprinkled on the floor for a bit. I honestly can't remember if I did that with mine or not.

Ha!! If they ever lay! I have 10 adults on the pond, 4 ducks and 6 drakes. I have not found one egg yet!! I know they are breeding, so either they're holding out on me, or they are hiding them pretty good! If I ever find any eggs, I might do that, though I don't know why I'd need more if I have 19 already!
