The earliest a pullet went broody...

11. ELEVEN DAYS and she went broody!! Se JUST started her laying and i forgot to collect for the rest of the girls for just one day. seven eggs in the box, and boom now she wants them all.

Funny story, when she gets off them to eat... Crooked foot (her toes are backwards since hatch for some reason) comes and babysits!

She has only been laying for a month.

My bantam cochin, Betty is broody, she's 5-6 months old. Our big girls haven't even been broody yet! Thankfully she's not a terror. We're trying to naturally break her.

I had a cochin bantam go broody at 23 weeks, just two weeks after laying her first ever egg. I tried breaking her so many times in so many ways (broody jail, dipping in cold water, etc), but she ended up sitting her heart out for 5 full weeks. I always took her off the nest at least twice a day to make sure she ate and drank. She finally gave up and now she's going through a mini molt because she broodied so hard. Cochins are crazy...

Of all our new hens, Theo (who was the only broody one) is also the only one that has decided to molt this year. She's got a single tail feather she flies like a flag. Thankfully no one is bothering her even though they've never seen a molt before. Feathers of Rage indeed.
