The first egg!!

I had just about given up on eggs for the winter.. but I got a little surprise this morning beside the waterer.

It must be from Dorthy my Dorking as she is the only white egg layer in the flock and has the biggest bright red comb. The egg looks huge in the picture but it looks small or maybe a medium compared to my store bought eggs.

At 26 weeks today ... I hope the rest of them will start soon.

ok so I go out of the house for an hour or so and check on the girls on my return and find another egg... is it odd for them to start on the same day? I'm trying to figure out who laid this one.. and could there be more today?

I was going to cook it tonight and thought my family of 4 could each have a taste.. but now we have two eggs.... hmmm

First eggs are always cause for celebration!! In my experience, first eggs are usually a little small, and there sure could be more eggs today. Congratulations on an eggs-citing day for you, your family and your hens!!
