Ok, so we have labeled ourselve 'The Fortunate Unfortunates". This is a thread deadicated to us that work a little 'extra hard' and put in that little extra effort for our little runts, nonthrifty, down on luck but with the will to survive with a little love and care babies. I know, a few of you will say that they started out that way for a reason, and probably shouldnt be allowed to survive, etc. and that's ok- actually the best in some situations. BUT we decided to try- as we are not breeders or trying to make breeds stronger, we just have a few pets that we want to live another day.

We want to see pictures of your little unfortunates that became fortunate and lucky for your extra love, care and affection!

We will start with Pipd's photo of "Po Boy". Hope you don't mind Kristen!
Po down on his luck, runt of the litter, but still with the hope to survive! Not sure if he was going to survive......

and a few days later, with her care
Po! You go boy.

This is Victoria, my little White Sultan that was born on February 4,2013. I really didnt think she would make it. Tiniest little thing I have ever seen! I gave her electrolytes, hand fed, extra warmth, etc. and she made it! Today she is the best little Sultan! One of the friendliest girls. She just loves to stretch her neck out on me at nap time and just give me luvin.

'Toria on day one. Really thought she was a goner

'Toria today at 14 weeks!

Po was the second 'runt of the litter' I have had to help out thus far. The first was my little speckled Sussex, Biddy-bird. Biddy-bird was very weak, more so than Po I think. By nightfall the first night I had her, she was making gasping motions and I was pretty sure I was going to lose her.

Then, the next morning she was fine, like a miracle!

As Biddy grew, she was always smaller than the others:

Her outer toes curled around to the backs of her legs:

But this never slowed Biddy-bird down, and later on, she was the first of her broodmates to lay an egg!

Biddy-bird! :D

So my husband works at the local feed store, and one day their chick shipment came in late. Usually when shipping chicks they're in the air for about 2 days tops, these poor little guys were in the air for 4 days

well the feed store had my husband cull most of them that weren't doing so well. He decided to bring a bunch home in the hopes that I would save them, being the softy I am I had to try. Well unfortunantly all of them died (even the ones doing better that the feed store kept) EXCEPT this little one

She's snuggling next to a stuffed panda for company. I decided to name her chuck norris since she's such a tough little survivor

(don't worry a few days after this pic I went and bought her a few friends)

This is her today

It was sad at first but as long as I saved at least one it was worth it.
