A week ago we hatched out 17 chicks from our White Rock flock. They are typical chicks, prone to running, flapping, jumping, peeping, etc...The other morning I put some yogurt on my finger and dipped it in crumbles and some came to see what I had for them. I continue to do the same thing with water and crumbles and it is amazing how they have no fear of the hand.

One thing is that they are in a lower brooder than I've used before so they can see people approach rather than having the "HAND" appear from above. Don't get me wrong, they're still a little skittish but nothing likes ones that I've raised in the past.

Just had to share... Friendly chicks.

That's great. :)

I found that taking a pinch or two of crumbles and grinding them between my fingers and holding them out in the palm of my hand made all the chicks soooo happy! They all gathered around and pushed each other to get to my hand and snap them up. My Ideal 236 (I call her Ida) is so friendly now, that she flies up onto the edge of the brooder every time I come in the garage, and when I let her, she'll step right up onto my hand, walk up my arm, and stand on my shoulder!

I wish my Wyandotte was like that! All of my chicks are varying amounts of friendly, but my Silver Laced Wyandotte wants nothing to do with me. She's the only one who simply won't take treats (even mealworms!), no matter how excited everyone else is.
