Yes please be careful with hays. I had one of mine get impacted crop and I worked on her for 2 weeks before I finally got it passed through her. I thought I was gonna have to perform surgery on her to get it out.

Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry that happened. But glad she’s ok. That’s it then for mine, even one horror story isn’t worth it. Thank you.

I think you will be fine with it just pick out those long strands. I haven’t giving my any more hay since but I really want too because they enjoyed scratching through it so much. It keeps them busy! I probably will give it too them again sometime but I will definitely pick through it

They sure do! Sometimes I just rake up some leaves in the fall and throw those in there and they have a blast scratching through it

How nice. We live with all evergreens, no leaves Though I guess I could go to the forest and gather some.

If you live in or near a neighborhood with obsessive leaf rakers, you can look for a house with leaf bags by the curb and ask if you can have the leaves.

(1) ask if they used any sprays or lawn chemicals (2) give them back their empty leaf bags

My hen needed crop surgery after I offered hay for them to scratch in during a winter storm. Out of many chickens only 1 had an issue. But it was quite the ordeal.
