We had a heat wave here in NH last week and I know everywhere is having them

I try my best to keep my chickens cool
Dip them in water . My silkie let's me swish her around like you do a kid lol
Here and my polish love it they will stand there for awhile
My polish Daphane I think forgot she was standing in water up to her belly and went to slay down and spread her wings lol

Anyway I mention the heat wave because a farm here in NH list 400 of their chickens from the heat and another lost 200. It seems like they were doing everything right

But now I am worried no matter what I do I can lose them

What do you all do?

I have a fan, dunk them in water, cold treats like frozen watermelon
They have plenty of shade to go to
Half their run which is big was built into a heavy tree area then other half isn't covered by trees so they have a choice

I put electrolytes in their water

I’m in Massachusetts and sharing that heat with you. Since this is our first flock I was a nervous wreck worrying about them. My husband set up a fan to blow air into the coop and out the vents and ridge vent. I shaded the run, and wet down one area. I also put out pans with ice which they wanted nothing to do with. Out of everything I did it was the fan that helped the most by keeping the coop from collecting all that heat. They spent most of their time in there.
It sounds like you did a good job with all you did. They survived!

They are probably in huge barns.
Did they lose power?

There's like a hundred 'hot weather' threads, do we need another?
