Yay, incubator is up and running! Those roos have been active, so looking forward to see if we'll have any lucky eggs... We made it out of main stuff we had already including the 5 gallon tank, rubbermade box for fan height, egg cartons, a toddler bowl with sponge, ice cube tray, and utility light etc. We got the fan, sponge, and light bulbs at Dollar General. This is my first time doing this, so we'll see what happens.

Nice, I hope it works for you! I need to build myself something new, my LG incubator is killing a lot of eggs lately...

I love it! I've been considering building one and wasn't sure what to use. I have an old aquarium in the storage shed. I am going to give this a try. Thanks for the awesome idea! And I will be sure to add the thermometer and hydrometer.

Tractor supply was out of what we needed for it, so we had to used the old kind of thermomitor down in it until they get it in. Dollar general said thats a seasonal item and they didn't have it there they proudly added that they had a digital human one.... But, here was this egg from my hens that don't lay much anymore and so we decided to experiment. We are guessing that with all the rooster activity going on that there might be something to it. So until I get the humidity one I followed water instructions from a post on here. If these don't work out, then at least we got practice for when tractor supply gets the part in.

I'm pretty new to this hatching stuff, but I thought they were supposed to be big end up. If I'm wrong, feel free to ignore me!

I wrote the dates on them at the small end so I wanted the dates in the photo for when I look back, but I put them back correctly after the photo.

anyhoo, my temp has stayed perfect and with the nice new combo one from Lowes for around $3 My humidity is wanting to stay at 40 to 42.... my bowl and sponge is full of water... is that level ok for now or do I need it raised more???
