Bloomington, IN
Indiana is known for its farmland, Bloomington is the home of IU. Terrific school. And the winters, considering it's only an hour south of Indianapolis, are a heck of a lot milder than central Indiana. It always seems to be just a little warmer south of I-70. Oh, and southern Indiana, where Bloomington is, isn't typical flat farmland. It's rolling hills, forests, etc..
Bloomington is very much considered an "artsy" town.
My husband and I just looked at a 5 acre farm closer to Indy that is bank-owned (which you will see a lot of these days) and it was only 99,000. The house had been completely re-modeled and it had a well built barn and two and a half car garage, too. People around here are buying up property just like it like crazy. It's everywhere, what with our factories going overseas faster than we can blink.
