The inevitable has finally happened....

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! There are a ton of cats in my area too, and I even wrote an article about keeping cats out of your yard. You could check it out if you're interested. It's geared towards people who have cats coming into their gardens, but these tactics should help, no matter what they're coming onto your property for... I hope your chickens stay safe. I've lost a few chickens this year, and I suspect it was to neighborhood cats at least once or twice. :( Orange peels seem to be helping...

x2.

I once met a dude who used to keep big sponges soaked in beef fat. Stray dog came around, he'd leave the sponge out, the dog would eat the sponge...and the dog would eventually die in agony. (Farmers really hate stray dogs.)

That's horrible.. I get that predators are a pain in the rear, but that's no reason to torture them. They are just acting on instinct and have no way of knowing that what they are doing is wrong by our standards.
I had some Norway Rats try to move in here not long ago. An old timer told me to catch one and burn it alive, then when the others witnessed that they would leave. I told him no way I would do that, that's disgusting, and he replied "well, it works." as if that justified it.
What the heck is wrong with people? Causing an animal, any animal, to suffer unnecessarily is downright despicable.
