the risk of roosters......

I don't need my chickens to go broody.... :-D my neighbour has one or two cockrels and there willing to give us eggs! thanks all but now I have another question, will my chiickens accept the eggs and hatch them out? and what happens if the chickens abandon the chicks when they hatch? oh and a few of you have asked what is wrong with roosters well lets just say it would be kinder to stick with hens!
Broody means that the hen will sit on the eggs. If you take the fertile eggs and put them under her more then likely she won't even know. She won't but if she does use a heat lamp at least till they feather out.

If you have a broody hen she will definately, at least in my experience, accept eggs. I've even put golf balls under them and they didn't know the difference. If she hatches the eggs, she will raise the chick. In her mind, that's her baby and she will be very protective of it.

thank you so much! this is so helpful that I was running around the room shouting why did I not know before I started typing, do you get yours online or at a certain pet shop, tell me where to get them!
(a very exited) moomin
