The scoop on MPC??

I am receiving chicks (only 5) from my pet chicken. How is it? Did you get the correct genders/breeds? Were they all alive and grew up well? I placed a small order to add to my flock. 1 white cochin, 1 buff polish, 1 buff orpington, one silverlaced wyandotte, welsummer

my current year olds were from MPC last year. I ordered nine, all arrived happy and healthy and all survived to laying age. I lost 3 to predators in the fall and with the remaining six, I get between 2-5 eggs daily , averaging about 2 dozen eggs weekly. They are friendly, happy hens and the easter eggers both lay nice green eggs. All hens, and all what I ordered.

I had a buff orpington and sadly, she was the first lost to a hawk. She was by far the sweetest, prettiest chicken in the flock! She loved to sit in laps for a nap.

Have fun! I'm sure they will be fine but the wait is a bit nerve wracking!

Thanks! That is good to hear, I have been waiting for two months!!! (they should come the week of May 23d) I am glad I ordered a buff orpington too.

I recently lost two of my precious hens from a think a fox! They both laid every day, and one of them layed green and blue.

I ordered chickens from MPC. On the first group of 6 one died after the 2nd day, I had to put it to sleep as it had some sort of leg problem and then it was not eating. I ordered a second group of 4 and they all died. One was DOA the other 3 died in the ensuing days. They refunded some of my $$ but not all of it for the 5 chicks. The person on the phone today was more interested in writing down my comments than being sympathetic to the order that was lost. There are lots of hatcheries out there and I don't think I will get any from them again.

mmm, you are one of the first people with a negative comment. I am sorry to hear about your experience. I live pretty close to the hatchery, so they don't have to travel very far. I 've also got a lot of "remedies" and "splint" techiniques i can always use if I need to.

I ordered from them and never received my order. I am not sure what happened. They could not find my order. I had the charges taken off my card. Not fun.

So, I ordered this time from Ideal. I should get them soon.

Yikes, hearing bad stuff about MPC makes me nervous, I'm expecting my order next week.

Don't let it make you too terribly nervous. There are going to be good stories and not-so-good stories about every hatchery and breeder. I think overall, MPC has a good reputation & you most likely have nothing to worry about. I myself have never ordered from them, but if I was to order chicks and/or eggs to be shipped from a hatchery, that's most likely who I would order from.

I think each of the major hatcheries has their pros and cons, and you'll find stories in favor of and against each of them if you dig deep enough. You'll be fine. Congrats on your order.

MPC is a broker, my chicks from them came from Meyer.
