My chickens are the smartest chickens in the world! One of my chickens attacked a fox and scared the fox away! But she got injured. have your chickens done that before?

Yup! My New Hampshire Rooster 'Rusty' was so used to seeing my 90 pound german shepherd Karl trotting through the henyard attached to the front yard, that he completely forgot any instinctive fear of canines. A young coyote came into the yard and grabbed a hen; Rusty fluffed up, clucked loudly and more deeply than usual and ran at the coyote. It was so startled that it dropped the hen and ran back into the woods.A deep 'cukcukcuk' from a rooster isnot too different in sound than a 'woofwoofwoof' from a ticked off dog, so maybe the coyote mistook the sound for that of a dog; but in any event, the hen was saved.

I have had roosters and hens with bitties take on red foxes multiple times in past. I count my self lucky when chicken attacking fox was not lost as fox more often than not did not have to work so hard for its eats on those visits. When chicken prevailed I think the foe was a young fox.
