We thought we just had a slow learner. We had 4 hens and 3 eggs a day, so we were waiting for her to get her act together. We used to free range our chickens from dawn to dusk, so neither my wife or I noticed that the one hen was falling in love with my old farm truck... that is until I took it into town to get gas. As I was filling up I glanced under my tool box.....
There was a pile of leaves that had been there.... for who knows how long and I guess that she liked being covered and away from the others.

These were that ones that were not broken, there were nearly 30 eggs under there!

We now keep them in the coop till around noon to lessen the losses and I installed more laying boxes last week because everyone should have some alone time

Have you thought about using nesting box 'curtains' ? Maybe she likes a load of privacy and it might help some? Just thinkin' (which is a dangerous thing for me!)
