The snowies are huge, at almost 4 weeks they are as big as most of my standard adults. I’ve been building their pen, the plan was to make something for the snow angels to live in outside once spring comes, but to be used for housing the snowies until I get celadon snowies and then I’ll cull the originals and some rosettas and put the celadon snowies in general pop.
I had this old folding table in the basement that I set up to wrap Christmas presents last year, but it’s broken and won’t fold down lol so it was in the basement with boxes on it and stuff. We dragged it out and built the pen around it so the table is the roof.
I built the pen, using cookie racks for doors. I threaded bungee cords thru the loops that make the legs of the racks, and they hold them closed nice and tight (I tried to put my hand thru and now I’m bleeding lol).
It’s some weird metric sized table that’s like 6 and a third feet long and like 31.5 inches wide.
I stood the four table feet on patio blocks so they won’t sink into the ground.
Here’s the finished pen with some happy birds inside:
It started raining so I haven’t hooked up the light yet, but they aren’t laying anyway. They’re so big, I still had them in the 50 gallon tote and they were cramped, but I was weaning them off the nutridrench to be sure they would keep thriving, so I didn’t move them out, plus it was freezing last week, literally 31 degrees at night, and this week it’s 70 degrees haha.
Saying they’re so happy is an understatement! They’re over moon happy, I picked some long grass and found a few ratty dandelions and they had never seen any of that, they were so cautious and then they started running around with the greens taunting each other.
