I have a 10-year-old cat, Pepper, who loves killing small animals. But for some reason, she's adopted my chickens. Even when they were the smallest fuzzbutts, she'd sit every evening on the edge of the brooder and we'd both stare down at the tiny chicks.
They are now 20 weeks old and living in a rather nice coop. Each evening, weather and schedule permitting, I sit in the run with them, and usually Pepper sits on my lap and watches her chickens.
Well last night, for some reason, Pepper jumped off my lap and proceeded to run across the pen.
I freaked out. But the chickens just stood there staring at her. Every step she made, the chickens in front of her would move to the side, and the rest would come up behind her. None of the chickens made a noise, no one ran. They just closed in and stared.
Pepper made a dash through the pen and couldn't figure out what to do when she reached the fence.
Eventually she ran back down the hill, but wouldn't come to me. She leaped on the side of the coop and took off.
All of the chickens just stood in one spot and stared after her.
Talk about creepy.
