I set a thermometer down at the base of the eggs and one on top. During the heat of the day my house gets a bit warm on nice days. The base of the eggs stays 99 to 100 all the time though. But at the top it goes goes higher. starts at 100 at the top in the morning, then by 5 pm (hottest time in that room) the top reached 104. Will this kill any babies that are forming? I am not sure how long they were like that.
I turned the eggs this morning and they were 99 at the base and 100 at the top (at 7 am)
2:30 pm turned the eggs again they were 99 at the base and 101 at the top
5 pm checked on the eggs to make sure they were doing okay, they were 100 at the base and 104 at the top.
So my best guess tells me that the eggs themselves would be around the right temp and it shouldn't hurt them. I am going to start opening the window in that room at 3 pm on nice days so it doesn't heat up like that and allows fresh air in the room. I didn't think about it until 15 minutes ago and rushed in there.
going to check on them again in a half hour to make sure they aren't back up to the hot temp again.
But I am really curious if the heat at the top of the eggs is different then the actual egg temp, also if the base temp is different.
I've never really thought about it before. In the past years when incubating eggs i just ignored it and was neglectful (and had more success then i have recently)
