Our 4 chicks are nearly 6 weeks old. We have had a really hard time working on the coop because every weekend has been rainy and cold this spring. For a couple of weekends the hubby and I just had to suck it up and slop around in the rain and mud. We managed to clear some thick trees/underbrush where our coop is going. Right where we stopped, we found a beautiful, old pink honeysuckle bush. It's going to look lovely next to the run! Unfortunately, the ground needed a LOT of leveling, so that has been a chore, but we finished it up and started on the foundation of the coop. We've laid fencing out 3' from the wall of the coop, and we've built a foundation of cinderblock. The fencing comes under the block and bends up behind it so it is held securely. My hubby will be mortaring the block next weekend, then we can *finally* start constructing the actual coop/run! I will post some pics of the foundation and the honeysuckle later today. I am hoping that after the foundation is finished, it will only take us a few days to get the coop/run itself done. It's a 10 x 6 run with a 4 x 6 coop at one end.

Looking forward to the pictures.

OK, we've finally made some picture-worthy progress. We spent a lot of time clearing the jungle. We had to take down a large tree and cleared a lot of bushes, vines, and undergrowth. Then we started the foundation. We put welded wire fencing down for 3' around the perimeter of the foundation, buried it in rock and put the foundation on top of it. Basically, nothing is going to dig into this coop. DH calls it Fort Knox. It took us weeks to get that far because of the horrible weekend weather. Meanwhile, our chickies have been growing and growing!

Yesterday we were able to build up the walls. We got everything square and level. Today we're going to work on getting the roof and window set up. It's going to be so cute!!! I'm just in love with it!

Just a gratuitous pic of my sweet Matilda, all growed up. She's the little pumpkin in my profile pic. She can't wait to move into her lovely house!

Thanks for looking!
