The week of the predators.

I am glad to see I am not the only one with predator problems. This week alone I have found 5 weasels in my yard. I haven't seen a weasel around here in years until this week. I found a mother mink trying to teach her 3 (adorable!) babies how to hunt in my temporary poultry yard, but there weren't actually any poultry in the yard yet. (Note to self- Poultry yard needs some additional work to the fencing before actually putting chickens in it.) And I found a fisher cat hanging around my front yard. I think it got my resident grouses. So sad. My ruffed grouse had the cutest little tiny baby that followed mom around like a shadow. I hope they just went into hiding.

Well things calmed down for a few days, but last night I got a female raccoon. It's actually the first female predator that I've trapped.

Heh! Wait til you deal with the sneakiest predator...snakes! I've had rat snakes take on an adult Buff Orpington, killed 2 large RIR pullets, eat 4 of 6 chicks in a cage in my garage and needless to say I got lucky and managed to kill each snake.
