Saturday, I found my roo had pecked one of my red stars on the head pretty badly which i know was probally from his way of holding her down to his love making wiles. So i separated him and brought her in the house to nurse her. I put an antiseptic on her head which the wound is now healing well. i have tried to put her back in with the others but she does not try to socialize with them. a few times i found her flying out of the pen and walking back to the house pecking at the kitchen door. When i open the door she walks right in and makes herself at home, chirps to me and of course the dh seems to think it is so funny. I love her company, her name is lucy luu(the kids named her) but worry about her not socializing with the other hens. She is 14 weeks old.

LOL! I think you've got a friend for life. I agree that she must really like you.

And your point would be?.... I have 4 full time house chickens. Both roosters hang with the fam whenever we are here at the computer. During family BBQ's etc they visit with friends and family outside. The girls we don't handle for fear of breaking thier eggs inside of them. Oh yea did I mention combined weight of all 4 is less then 3 lbs. Serama the alternative parrot.
Enjoy your girl perhaps god has given you a GIFT!

i guess b/c the cat lol

I would suggest you getting some chicken diapers. I bought one and am waiting for it in the mail. I have a golden crested that acts just like your Lucy lulu. Best of luck and let us know how it turns out.

You did get my reply, 2MnyPets! Hooray!
Slifer would wear her diaper with no problem, but Obelisk was like a greased pig...she looked like she was doing the can-can...funny as heck!
I have hardwood floors, so I just go around after her with a dustpan and brush for the ploop and I use a Petspot cleaner for the splort.

I guess i better invest in some chicken diapers. I"ve just been cleaning up after her, she spends most of her time on the window sill and wooden window seat in my kitchen. I've been putting her in the coop at night with the hens, but prefers my company during the day. She really is a cutie.

Yesterday, the chicken turned up missing. I guess she flew out of the pen and wandered about the property. I was at work and the kids looked everywhere for her calling her name. I got home from work, depressed wondering what happened to my girl. My dh said you have 36 more hens why are you worried about that one chicken. I really became attached to her you know, and really did not want her becoming predator meat after all she had been through. Her head was healing great and she had the sweetest personality. After i got changed i sat in the family room to watch tv, we have a big picture window next to the tv and i saw this bird flying up to the window flapping it's wings. At first it scared the begeebers out of me, but then saw that the bird was my lucy! I ran out and she flew right into my arms, i just love this chicken. She was all muddy, don't know where she was hiding, maybe in the woods but she was home and safe. I put her back in the pen later and it seems she must have had quite an experience because she has not tried to leave since i put her back. I walk into the coop and pen and she flies right into my arms so at least she is still my girl.
