I have a probe thermometer in the (forced air) incubator I am borrowing to hatch chicken eggs in. I tested the thermometer in boiling water and it registered between 212 and 213 degrees, so it's pretty darn accurate! I placed it in the incubator and it was reading 103-105 degrees! The thermometer that came with the bator was reading just below 100. Thank goodness I didn't put any eggs in yet!
I have the probe sitting on the wire mesh in the bottom of the bator and it is registering around 104 and I am currently trying to bring the temp down. I'm wondering if I get the temp steady at 100 degrees with the probe on the mesh if that is an accurate measure of temperature or if I should try placing the probe on something raised so it's reading the temp at what will be the approximate height of the eggs?
I hatched duck eggs years ago, but had a different incubator and a different type of thermometer, so I'm re-learning all of this...
