these spurs look long to me... should I trim? and how?

Yes, you can twist them off. I just hate doing that. It leaves the inner core and that hardens, sometimes to a point that is just as damaging as the main spur was. So, there are two ways to do it, both correct, just up to your preference.

Is there a reason you should do this if the rooster is not aggressive?

I've had to sew up the hens' ripped up sides because of spurs, so I at least blunt the ends flat and smooth the edges.
