Back story:
We have a Blue Cochin that went broody around March 18. She was pretty persistent so I got 6 eggs from a friend (Bantam Silkie Rooster and EE hen) and put them under her Friday March 18 at night.

On day 14 I candled them (first time ever). I marked 3 alive, 2 undeveloped, and 1 unsure. Since I am a novice, I left them all under her just incase.

I was discouraged yesterday when nothing happened and today my daughter found her off the nest and had to put her back on the eggs.

It has been 22.5 days since she has been sitting on the eggs so I decided to the water test. To my surprise 3 were pipped (2/3 were chirping) and 1 egg was not pipped but passed water test and heard chirping. The 2 eggs I marked as undeveloped, failed the water test.

Questions:
1. Is the chick in the egg that is pipped but not chirping going to be ok?
2. We cracked the two eggs open that failed the water test and the whites/yolks were all one slimy mess. What does that mean? Were they fertilized and partially developed? Or were they rotten from being under there.
I hate waiting. I hope they don't take long to hatch.

How's she doing today?

The nasty eggs sounds like they were not fertile.

No way to know if that chick will be ok. Hopefully she'll finish what she started and get back in them.

I have 2 Silkie/EE cross hens. Cute little birds. They look like silkies but with normal feathers. They lay light tan eggs. I'm hoping one goes broody this year.
