What industrious little three-day-olds

If they're going to insist on noshing on insects, though, should I give them a bit of grit? It's not like the place is crawling with them, so they won't get many, but yanno, it is a garage.

(As an aside, those little suckers move fast! I think I'd better get my running shoes on and start training so I can keep up with them.)

At least yours will EAT ants. My silly birds - now almost 6 weeks old - won't touch ants OR earthworms!

Are you lucky or what? And at 3 days old too!
Mine are defective - or I spoiled them with too many treats: they won't eat slugs, potato beetles, pill bugs or earthworms !!! Let alone the ants I so dearly want them to destroy. So, no treats for a few days and I'll see what happens. Or maybe I didn't start early enough, these birds are 3.5 months old now.

Yay for eating ants!

My adult chickens won't touch a potato beetle, or any beetle for that matter

Can't help you on the grit question

LOL, well, I hope the ant eating was a good sign and that they'll keep it up. They'll eventually have to earn their keep, and checking the early spring and resting gardens out for bugs is part of that!

Must be nice! NONE of ours will eat ants

I'll sit by an ant trail and have chickens all around me, they'll bend down and watch the ants but never ever attempt to get one
