they Hatched !

so about 17 days ago i decided to see if I could hatch a couple of my eggs - looked online built a small little incubator, temperature relay and whisper fan (my wife and friends thought it was a little bit crazy) put two fresh laid eggs in, next day I added to more - lovely rotated the eggs as much as I could - kept the humidity up with a little cup of water in the incubator - on day 15 stopped rotation and let the eggs rest on their sides - and today two hatched.. err - now what? i set up a little brooder - have a light for keeping it warm - a little very shallow dish for some water - but don't really have any specific food yet - can I grind down some the regular feed until I can get to the feed store? - was a lot of fun doing - might have developed some sort of addiction now

I grind up my regular feed too for the chicks. all my chicks survive most of the time.

yes. I don'T have quail anymore though.

You want to try to get high protein for the chicks, so if your food is less than 25% protein or so, you can supplement with egg yolk.

I believe you have to cook it and crumble it up for them.

Cooked. You can boil the eggs then mash them up with a fork.
