7 week old Salmon Faverolle cockerels that are lethargic. Today is the end of their Corid treatment. I had one do it exactly a week ago, lethargy, empty crop and we started Corid on everyone and he perked right up. All normal until today and we noticed now the two boys are doing it. Empty crops, want to be interested in food but aren’t. Do not scream and peep when I pick them up.
I’m going to stop the Corid as planned tonight (7 days of treatment) and give them back their vitamin/electrolyte water.
Any other suggestions?!?

What dosage have you been giving them? The severe outbreak dosage is 1.5 tsp of the powder, or 2 tsp (10ml) of the liquid Corid into each gallon of water for 7 days. They really need to drink the Corid water. You can then reduce the dosage to 1/3 tsp of the powder or 1/2 tsp of the liquid Corid per gallon for an additional 5 days. To give an extra boost to the 2 new ones sick, give them 3 drops of undiluted Corid twice a day. Have those 2 been treated? Keep them on fresh grass or bedding that is free of droppings.

I’ve been giving them a smidge under 1/2 tspn powder in 1 quart of water. That is all they have had available and have all been drinking it.
Poops all look good?!
I did have to change the food because I ran out of their original, non medicated food. I did that yesterday and they all snarfed it down.
Do chickens get upset tums from diet changes like dogs and cats?

I have never seen that and I have changed food a lot. Once they didn’t like the feed that I bought, and didn’t eat as well. It looked so much different that the usual crumbles or pellet feed. I would make sure they are all drinking well. Also mix a little Corid water into some feed, and add a little plain yogurt for probiotics daily.

So I was super creeping on the boys before bedtime and the one who was blah last week too is sniffly sounding. And opens his mouth to breath. Seems like he has a stuffy nose?!? No discharge from eyes or nose. I used vetrx (that was the most confusing directions ever) on everyone because they have all been sneezy. I don’t have AB’s and can’t really get them before Thursday unless it is emergent.

Look for any nasal drainage. If it is a viral respiratory infection such as infectious bronchitis, antibiotics will not help any way. Is there any mold in their brooder from wet bedding? That can cause a fungal pneumonia. Make sure they have good air circulation. Vet Rx is an herbal oil remedy, similar to Vicks. Here is a good link on commone diseases, including respiratory diseases such as bronchitis, mycoplasma (MG,) coryza, ILT, and aspergillosis from mold.

They are in our bedroom unless they are outside. They are on Aspen shavings that gets changed every 3 days or if it looks gross or smells at all. We are finishing their coop. I will look over the link, thank you.
I love vetrx (who knew), but I also love Vick’s!
