My friend who I gave 6 eggs to recently told me she was surprised at how thick the shells were compared to store-bought eggs. I give my girls flockraiser with oyster shell free choice. Are thicker shells normal with backyard flocks?

I would guess that store bought eggs are mostly produced in a mass production facility. these facilities normally feed the minimum needed to get an egg so they can be more profitable. I would assume that if you're like most of us, your chickens are fed well and you take care of them. I know mine have access to greens and they get fruits and veggies as treats, all of this contributes to a better quality egg.

I can't imagine ever buying a store bought egg again.
